Bee’ah chooses Polystorm for HQ designed by Zaha Hadid Architects

Polystorm will manage 1.9 million litres of stormwater on site.

Bee’ah, the UAE’s leading integrated environmental, recycling and waste management company, is set to open its new headquarters in 2019.

Following an invited competition to design a facility that reflects Bee’ah’s goal to operate entirely from renewable energy sources and move towards zero waste, the renowned Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) were commissioned for the Sharjah-based project.

With a design inspired by the mighty desert’s sand dunes, the complex is expected to set a benchmark for all future green construction projects in the Gulf region; with a goal of zero waste to landfill.

In keeping with its sustainable construction, the project required a high-performing water management system made of recyclable materials. For this very reason, one of the lead consultants, BuroHappold, specified Polystorm. A geocellular water management system which is 100% recyclable, Polystorm has a void ratio of 95%, meaning its water storage capacity is huge.

It complies with Sustainable urban Drainage Systems (SuDS), and its durability and strength makes it ideal for large and demanding projects. In addition, its bespoke composition makes it a perfect match for projects with creative and complex architecture.

Eight Polystorm tanks will manage approximately 1.9 million litres of stormwater on site, operating seamlessly underneath the car park and landscaped area. Compared to traditional legacy materials, the Polystorm soakaway solution is superior, robust, durable and lightweight. It offers controlled and sustainable ways to reintroduce water run-off back into the ground, alleviating flooding and eliminating silt and contamination.

Polypipe Middle East worked closely with lead consultants, BuroHappold and Bin Dalmouk, both experts in engineering and design consultancy. The project team also worked with main contractor, Al-Futtaim Carillion, to ensure timely and successful installation. Al-Futtaim Carillion had an existing relationship with Polypipe in the UK, and so trusted the solutions put forward for the project.
